Hangzhou prepares to welcome PTM delegates
An important message from Li Hong, Director of Hangzhou Tourism Commission. “It is really my great honour to welcome you all to the city of Hangzhou for PATA Travel Mart 2009. I am so passionate that Hangzhou, the ‘Oriental Capital of Leisure’, will have the opportunity to host this valuable event from September 22-25th. What is more important is that the people of Hangzhou share these same feelings. Known as one of China’s eight ancient capital cities, Hangzhou’s history of early civilization can be traced back some 8,000 years ago and the history of the city is more 2,200 years long. Hangzhou has enjoyed the reputation as a city of leisure since the South Song Dynasty which set Hangzhou as its capital city more than 800 years ago - thanks to her beautiful landscape, rich culture and fairly relaxed lifestyle. That is probably what leisure is all about! As all can see, China has witnessed fast growth in tourism with great potential for further development in the near future. Hangzhou, named by UNWTO together with CNTA as the ‘Best Tourism City of China’, is committed to its best possible effort to make this upcoming event not only a fruitful but a comfortable and unforgettable experience for all participants from around the world. Let us meet together in Hangzhou this September!”
PATA plays major role in UNWTO Hangzhou conference Do you know how to ‘weather the current economic storm’? The answers may well be forthcoming at a crucial conference in Hangzhou this September organised by the UNWTO in partnership with PATA and the China National Tourism Administration. This fifth International Conference on Destination Management, with the title ‘Weathering the Storm of Global Recession: The Challenge for Destination Management’, takes place immediately prior to the 2009 PATA Travel Mart and is set to feature a number of speakers recommended by the Association. It’s clear that the global economic crisis has created new dynamics for travel and tourism. It’s triggered many changes and created many challenges. This conference free to all PATA members and PATA delegates seek to address the issues and provide some practical, sensible and cost-effective solutions.
